After reading the earlier post about the flooding by the River Cole, pictures showing a group of volunteers who have removed obstructions in the river on numerous occasions were sent to Our Solihull.
The environmentalists who clear the river from time to time think there is a problem with the whole watercourse, with issues further down over the Birmingham border and hope that a more coordinated approach overseen by the Environmental Agency will produce a better outcome.
One of the volunteers, Shirley councillor Howard Allen, has also expressed concerns about proposals to allow the building of houses in Aqueduct Road at the rear of Mill Lodge School. He stresses that the ‘the run off’ will need very careful management to protect lower lying areas such as Nethercote Gardens.
Another volunteering opportunity
The Stratford Canal Society seeks volunteers from time to time to carry out work – helping with such tasks as basic hedge trimming and weir building – on the Stratford-on-Avon canal, which runs through several areas of Solihull.
